Public seminars in Oancea and Vlădesti, Romania
On September 2 and 3 in the commune of Oancea and Vlădești, the University Dunarea de Jos Galați organized 2 seminars, held within the HydroEcoNex project (BSB165). The seminars were attended by representatives of the local townhall, educational institutions in the territory, interested citizens, members of the leading partner team – Institute of Zoology, Republic of Moldova, as well as members of the team of project partners in Ukraine – Ukrainian Center for Marine Ecology and Hydrometeorological Center of Black Sea and Azov (Odessa).
The speakers of the seminars mentioned about the importance of protecting natural sites of Community importance, the problems facing the Prut River and the Dniester Rivers, the impact of hydrotechnical constructions on water flow, biodiversity, wetlands and drinking water resources, monitoring tools and cross-border cooperation, the main set of indicators that reflect changes in hydrotechnical constructions and climate change. The local public authorities mentioned that European projects represent special opportunities for cooperation and development, including those related to environmental protection or the improvement of infrastructure, and that it is worth investing both time and financial resources in preparing project proposals.
Representatives of education and research institutions, the Lower Danube University of Galați and the Institute of Zoology, Dr. habilitat, Prof. Antoaneta Ene and the corresponding member of ASM Elena Zubcov mentioned the main scientific results and recommendations on reducing the impact of hydrotechnical constructions and strengthening cross-border cooperation. The event took place in a friendly format, with discussions after the presentations. The participants were hoping that the cooperation will continue by develoing other projects in the future and organizing other actions to disseminate the research results and protection / restoration of valuable natural areas.
