The problem of the Dniester River is a major one caused by the operation of the hydrotechnical construction at Dnestrovsk, which led to radical changes. In the northern part of Moldova, in Otaci locality, Ocnita district, the Dniester looks more like a swamp, the ecological state of the river is catastrophic. Unfortunately, the temperatures and the hydrological regime have led to the disappearance of a lot of river’s fauna. The self-purification processes of this ecosystem were also deteriorated.
